Escape from Wonderland — A New Horror RPG Descended from Questlandia!
Hello itch folks,
We wanted to send out a devlog-adjacent update letting you know we've got a new game up on Kickstarter here! The game is called Escape from Wonderland, and it builds on Questlandia's system while adapting the mechanics to something more uncanny.
Escape from Wonderland takes place in an aging amusement park on the day before it closes for the season. You start with a simple goal—take a family photo, ride a beloved roller coaster, or savor a funnel cake before the grip of autumn sets in. However, the park has other ideas...
Escape from Wonderland is a one-shot, GMless game. Using Questlandia's foundation, characters succumb to a twisting version of reality and personal temptations as they struggle to find an exit to the park. Where Questlandia had kingdom troubles that escalate, Wonderland has menaces—otherworldly malicious entities that lure you in with sweet bargains, then do you harm. The park tests whether you'll give in to weakness or resist it. Sound familiar?
Also, it’s partly inspired by a very surreal trip we took to Six Flags. There’s more on that in the campaign, but here’s a photo of some claw machines tucked into an abandoned corner of the park...
And here’s a photo of broken claw machines, filled with sad Marios and Luigis...
It was a fascinating day, and started the gears turning for us about designing a game that dealt with liminal spaces, and amusement parks in decline.
The Kickstarter has both physical and PDF versions of the game. The campaign is just three weeks, and we wanted to make sure folks heard about it! Link again here:
